about

"Love TKO" is a single recording by Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends, the innovative guitarist's band with bass player Kevin Hornback and two drummer/percussionists, Jeff Brown and Marc Pisapia.

Gabrels sings "Love TKO" in a clear tenor while drawing the soul classic slowly and lovingly through a rock vortex. A keening guitar break underscores the singer's hidden hurt. Just as you think the song will end, the band slips into an ambient instrumental aftermath – a healing fantasy that wraps up with a shimmer.

"Love TKO" was written in 1980 by Cecil Womack, Gip Noble & Linda Womack and became a hit that year for R&B and soul singer Teddy Pendergrass.

Reeves Gabrels is an American guitarist and singer, song writer and music producer with international credits. He's been a member of The Cure since 2012 and can be heard and seen on the 2019 live-concert release The Cure - 40 Live Cureation 25 + Anniversary. Previously he was a longtime collaborator of the late David Bowie, with whom he worked from 1988 to 1999 as guitarist, harmony vocalist, co-writer and co-producer.
